Natural Creation - The Landscape Corridor Cut by Rivers
The magnificent posture of the Three Gorges originates from the Himalayan orogeny about 70 million years ago. The powerful crustal uplift caused a huge drop between the Sichuan Basin in the ancient Yangtze River Basin and the Jianghan Plain. The flowing river, like an inexhaustible axe, has been cutting and eroding the limestone layers of mountains such as Wushan for millions of years. Eventually, it split open the Kuimen Gate, carved out the deep Wu Gorge, tamed the treacherous Xiling Gorge, and formed the wonder of the river canyon that is now "controlled by Ba and Yu in the west, collecting thousands of valleys, and connected to Jingchu in the east, suppressing mountains". This process is still slowly continuing, making the Three Gorges itself a dynamic geological textbook.

Civilization Imprint - The Gorge of Soul Depicting in Poetry and Prose
If the power of nature shaped the form of the Three Gorges, then the humanistic spirit endowed it with an immortal soul. Since the Warring States period when Qu Yuan wandered by the river, the Three Gorges have become an eternal theme in Chinese literature. In the Han Dynasty, it became a strategic channel for communication between Bashu and the Central Plains; During the Three Kingdoms period, the tragic story of Tuogu in Baidi City added historical depth to Kuimen. By the Tang and Song dynasties, literary giants such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, Liu Yuxi, and Su Shi left behind timeless masterpieces here. Their poems were like starlight, embellishing the cliffs and rapids, elevating the Three Gorges from a simple natural landscape to a cultural holy land full of poetry and philosophy. The "danger" of the Three Gorges inspires people's courage, its "beauty" nourishes people's spirituality, and its "serenity" precipitates people's thinking.

Natural Creation - The Individualized Symphony of Three Gorges
The beauty of the Three Gorges lies in the magnificence of Qutang, the beauty of Wuxia, and the danger of Xiling, each with its own advantages and continuous development.
Qutang Gorge (Xiong): the head of the Three Gorges, starting from Baidi City in the west and ending at Daxi Town in Wushan in the east, with a total length of only 8 kilometers, but it is the shortest and most dangerous. At the entrance of Kuimen, the walls of Chijia Mountain and Baiyan Mountain on both sides stand like sharp cliffs, resembling a gate. The river surface suddenly shrinks to less than a hundred meters, and the water rushes and roars with great momentum, known as the "Kuimen of the world". The cliff carvings on the rocks, such as "Kuimen" and "Xiongzai", are a dual monument of culture and nature.
Wuxia (Xiu): Stretching for 45 kilometers, it is known for its deep and beautiful scenery, shrouded in clouds and mist. During the voyage, the green peaks on both sides are stacked and winding, sometimes "there is no way through the mountains", and sometimes "there is another sky when the bay returns". The Goddess Peak stands tall and graceful, and the legend of Yao Ji helping Yu control the floods adds a romantic touch to it. The twelve peaks of Wushan in the north and south of the Yangtze River form a natural ink painting gallery, which is the most poetic section in the Three Gorges.
Xiling Gorge (Dangerous): In the past, it was famous for its many beaches and fast flowing water, with a total length of 66 kilometers, making it the longest canyon in the Three Gorges. In the past, there were famous dangerous shoals such as Qingtan, Xietan, and Gaoling shoals. There was a saying among boatmen that 'Qingtan Xietan is not a shoal, but Gaoling is the gateway to hell'. After the Three Gorges Dam was filled with water, the dangerous shoals disappeared into Pinghu, but the rugged mountains and majestic waters of the canyon still left a lasting impression. Nowadays, Xiling Gorge is enriched with modern and cultural landscapes such as the Three Gorges Dam, Three Gorges households, and the hometown of Qu Yuan.
Red leaves and clouds in the Three Gorges: In late autumn, trees such as the Chinese parasol tree and the Chinese parasol tree that cover the mountains and fields turn red after frost, and the layers of forest are stained, forming a strong contrast with the emerald green river water, which is breathtaking. In the spring and summer seasons, the misty clouds often linger in the gorge, casting a soft veil over the green mountains and clear waters, creating an ethereal and ethereal atmosphere, like a fairyland.

Humanistic Craftsmanship - Civilization Footprints on the Cliff
Between the cliffs of the Three Gorges, there are traces of the survival and faith of our ancestors, telling the story of their tenacious vitality.
Baidi City: Located at the mouth of Qutang Gorge, surrounded by water on three sides, it is known as the "City of Poetry". This is the place where Liu Bei took care of himself, and also the place where poets of all ages came to pay tribute. Looking into the distance from the city, the majestic Kuimen can be seen in full view, with historical storms and magnificent mountains and rivers intertwined in the heart.
Shibaozhai: Located on the north bank of the Yangtze River in Zhongxian County, Chongqing, a twelve story red wooden attic is built along the mountain with flying eaves and wings, known as one of the "Eight Wonders of the World". It cleverly integrates mountains and buildings, and is an outstanding representative of folk architectural wisdom.
Hanging coffins and ancient plank paths: In the cracks or caves of certain cliffs in Wuxia and Xiling Gorge, mysterious hanging coffins of ancient Ba people can be seen, and how they were placed remains a mystery to this day. The ancient plank road with square holes intermittently visible on the cliff is the lifeline of ancient communication between the Xiajiang River, evoking memories of the difficult journey of ancient times.
The Three Gorges Dam: the pinnacle of contemporary human engineering. Climbing onto the Tanziling viewing platform, overlooking this giant that spans the Yangtze River, and experiencing the grandeur of 'high gorge emerging from flat lake'. Experiencing the "water elevator" process of a ship passing through a five level lock firsthand is an excellent way to understand its operating principles and experience the power of modern technology.

Photography tips:
Panoramic view of Kuimen: The best shooting point is at the observation deck on the top of Baidicheng Mountain or by boat to the center of the river, using a wide-angle lens to capture the majestic composition of the mountains and rivers on both sides.
Shennv Peak Qianying: Use a telephoto lens to capture the hazy and ethereal appearance of Shennv Peak in the morning mist or sunset on the viewing platform across from Qingshi Town or Shennv Peak in Wuxia.
Ship lock light and shadow: At the top or bow of the fifth level ship lock, the geometric light and shadow formed by the ship and the huge gate inside the lock room are captured during the blues time in the evening, which is extremely sci-fi.

Five Must Do Things to Unlock a Complete Journey to the Three Gorges
Crossing the Three Gorges by boat, being a painting artist for a day
The core way to visit the Three Gorges is definitely by boat. Whether taking a large cruise or sightseeing boat, only by looking up from the river can one truly feel the vertical scale and continuous momentum of the canyon. On the deck, watching the ever-changing mountains and waters, listening to the tour guide's stories and legends, immersing oneself completely in this flowing landscape scroll.
Ascending to the White Emperor City, reciting the phrase 'Farewell to the White Emperor amidst the colorful clouds'
Visit the White Emperor City in person, stand in front of the hall where Liu Bei entrusted the orphan, or overlook the Kui Gate by the Star Viewing Pavilion, silently reciting Li Bai's poetry in your heart. At this moment, the combination of geography, history, and literature creates the most culturally ceremonial experience of the Three Gorges journey.
Watch the Goddess Peak and encounter a cloud and mist fairy pose
In Wuxia, please make sure to set aside time and focus on searching for and gazing at the Goddess Peak. Whether it's the clear contours under the clear sky or the elusive figures in the clouds and mist, quietly experience this natural creation endowed with a thousand years of romantic imagination, and feel the aesthetic taste of Chinese people's "unity of heaven and man".
Visit the Three Gorges Dam and experience the contemporary concept of 'human power triumphs over heaven'
This project has completely changed the navigation and ecology of the Three Gorges. Visit the dam area to understand its enormous benefits in flood control, power generation, and shipping, and also reflect on the ecological and social impacts it brings. This is not just a project, but also a window to understand modern China.
Visiting Three Gorges households and experiencing the original ecological life along the river
In the "Three Gorges Family" scenic area of Xiling Gorge, walk into the stilted houses nestled by the mountains and water, watch Tujia wedding customs performances, listen to boatmen's calls, and experience the hardships of boatmen pulling fibers. Here, the relatively authentic Xiajiang folk culture is preserved, serving as a cultural supplement beyond the natural Three Gorges.

Furong Ancient Town

How to reach: Two main entry and exit channels
Visiting the Three Gorges usually starts and ends in Chongqing or Yichang, both of which have extremely convenient transportation.
Chongqing entry and exit (downstream): Fly to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport or take the high-speed railway to Chongqing North Station/West Station, and go to Chaotianmen Port to board the ship. Sailing downstream, the ship's speed is fast and the time consumption is relatively short.
Yichang entry and exit (upstream): Fly to Yichang Three Gorges Airport or take the high-speed railway to Yichang East Station, and then go to the Three Gorges Tourist Center or Maoping Port to board the ship. Counter current navigation is more calm and allows for a complete experience of the thrilling process of a ship passing through the five level ship lock (climbing) of the Three Gorges Dam.
Land Connection: Chongqing and Yichang are also connected by highways and railways, making it convenient to combine land and water travel.

Best Travel Time
The scenery of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River varies throughout the four seasons, but the comprehensive experience of climate and scenery in spring and autumn is the best.
Spring and Autumn Golden Season (March May, September November): The climate is the most comfortable. In spring, the mountain flowers are in full bloom, and the river water is emerald green; In autumn, the sky is high and the air is refreshing, and the layered forests on both sides are dyed. Especially in November, during the Three Gorges red leaf season, it can be called a stunning sight.
Summer flood season (June August): The river is full of water and the momentum is majestic. However, this is the rainy season and flood season. The weather is hot and may encounter rainstorm. The visibility of the river is sometimes affected.
Winter quiet season (December February): There are fewer tourists, and the mountains are vast and serene, with a unique beauty of tranquility. But the temperature is lower, and some tributary landscapes may lose color due to a decrease in water level.

Travel mode selection
Luxury cruise: the most mainstream and comfortable way. Like a mobile star rated hotel with all inclusive accommodation and meals, rich activities, and arranged shore tours along the way. Suitable for most tourists, especially families and middle-aged and elderly groups.
Ordinary tourist boat: a cost-effective choice, providing basic transportation and sightseeing functions, relatively simple accommodation conditions, and more focused on the sightseeing of the scenic spots themselves.
Self driving+short distance boat tour: flexible and free, can go deep into the counties and towns along the way. Suitable for travelers with ample time and a love for exploration, but with high requirements for route planning skills.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!
