Origin: The Millennium Dharma Meridian from "Xinxiang" to "Konglin"

Furong Ancient Town Furong Ancient Town

The original name of the ancient temple - the millennium origin of the Shinhyang sect
The history of Wenshu Monastery can be traced back to the Daye period of the Sui Dynasty. At first, it was not named "Manjusri Monastery", but a simple temple called "Xinxiang Temple", dedicated to "Xinxiang Bodhisattva". According to legend, before the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang traveled westward to obtain Buddhist scriptures, he once placed a memorial here to study, adding a touch of legendary color to this temple. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Xinxiang Temple was almost completely destroyed in the war, with only ten iron cast protective ring statues and two thousand year old cedar trees remaining, quietly guarding this Buddhist land.

Zhongxing Rebirth - The Connection between Master Cidu and Kangxi's "Empty Forest"
In the 20th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, Master Cidu came to the desolate old site and practiced meditation in Jiemao. He is known for his profound teachings. Legend has it that during his practice, he emitted a red light at night, and the people in the city looked upon him from afar as if Manjusri Bodhisattva had appeared in the world. Therefore, he was revered as the incarnation of Manjusri Bodhisattva. In the 36th year of the Kangxi reign, the government raised funds to rebuild the temple. Emperor Kangxi personally inscribed the plaque "Konglin" in memory of the virtues of Master Cidu and bestowed it upon the temple, indicating that this place is a forest of ethereal meditation. Therefore, although Manjusri Temple is named after Manjusri Bodhisattva, its most precious ancient plaque and another nickname are the "empty forest hall" granted by Kangxi Emperor, which is still hung on the the Shakya ManiHall.

Humanistic craftsmanship - the solemn axis of Qing Dynasty architecture
The architectural complex of Wenshu Temple is a typical Qing Dynasty temple pattern in the western Sichuan Plain, strictly symmetrically distributed along the central axis, starting from the mountain gate and progressing layer by layer, solemn and profound.
Shanmen and the Hall of the Three Great Scholars: The golden plaque of "Wenshu Yuan" hanging high on the Shanmen Hall was inscribed by the famous calligrapher He Shaoji in the Qing Dynasty. Inside the hall, there are enshrined the "Three Saints of the West", embarking on a pilgrimage journey.
Temple of Heavenly Kings and the Shakya ManiHall: The Temple of Heavenly Kings is located through the mountain gate. The statues of Maitreya and the four Heavenly Kings in the hall are vivid and vivid. The following the Shakya ManiHall is the core of the temple, where Sakyamuni Buddha is enshrined. The gold plaque of "Empty Forest" hanging above is the real work of Emperor Kangxi, which is the treasure of the temple.
The Sutra Pavilion and Manjusri Pavilion: At the end of the central axis, the Sutra Pavilion is magnificent and houses the relics of Tang Xuanzang's skull (only open for viewing at specific times), the blood stained "Avatamsaka Sutra", as well as numerous ancient Buddhist scriptures, calligraphy and painting treasures. The newly built Manjusri Pavilion is majestic and grand, serving as the main hall for the worship of Manjusri Bodhisattva.

Cultural relics and treasures:
Iron cast "Ring God" statues - the ten protector statues of the Ming Dynasty, are the oldest cultural relics preserved in the temple after experiencing disasters, with simple and powerful shapes.
Myanmar Jade Buddha - a jade carved Buddha statue of Shakyamuni Buddha brought back from Myanmar in the Qing Dynasty, crystal clear and solemn in appearance.
Thousand Buddha Robe - a robe embroidered with thousands of Buddha statues on bright yellow satin using gold thread, with exquisite craftsmanship.

Photography tips:
The best light and shadow plane: Looking back at the Heavenly King Hall from the the Shakya ManiHall, the eaves and incense burner form an excellent composition in the morning light.
Classic check-in spot: The famous red wall bamboo shadow area of Manjusri Monastery, where sunlight shines through the bamboo forest and casts mottled light and shadow on the red wall, full of Zen atmosphere.
Architectural details: Focusing on the Qing Dynasty carved doors and windows of each hall, as well as the exquisite kissing beasts on the roof, they are all witnesses of time.
The Green of the Secret Realm - Classical Gardens in the City
Wenshu Monastery is not only a temple, but also an exquisite classical garden.
Tall ancient trees: There are more than 200 ancient and famous trees distributed in the courtyard, especially the hundreds of years old ginkgo and ancient fir trees, which are the most eye-catching. In the late autumn season, golden ginkgo leaves fall, decorating the temple into a golden Buddhist kingdom, which is one of the most famous autumn scenery in Chengdu.
Fragrant Garden and Tea Garden: The "Fragrant Garden" on the east side of the temple is a serene courtyard that integrates a vegetarian restaurant, tea house, and guqin hall. Here, you can experience the most authentic Chengdu cup tea under the century old ginkgo tree, with the faint sound of chanting in your ears, truly immersing yourself in the local life of "Zen tea flavor".

Core Experience: One Day Deep Meditation Life Guide

Furong Ancient Town

Four essential tasks to unlock a complete Zen experience
Meditating on copying scriptures and practicing calligraphy and painting - In the specialized scripture copying room set up in the temple, one can wash their hands and burn incense, and use a brush to copy fragments of the Heart Sutra or Diamond Sutra stroke by stroke. This is not only a calligraphy practice, but also an excellent method of meditation, allowing mixed thoughts to settle in the brush and ink. Suggest reserving 1-2 hours.
Tasting tea and smelling the fragrance, experiencing the slow life of Chengdu - be sure to go to the "Fragrant Garden" teahouse and take a seat. Order a bowl of "Manjusri Monastery Special" Mengding Mountain Tea or Blue Pool Drifting Snow, watch the old tea guests sit around chatting, and feel the slow flow of time. Perhaps there is no hustle and bustle of Jinli here, but there is the most authentic "comfortable" life in Chengdu.
Tasting vegetarian cuisine and experiencing the Zen flavor on your tongue - the vegetarian cuisine at Manjusri Monastery is well-known far and wide. Lunch can be experienced at the vegetarian restaurant in "Fragrant Garden". Whether it is simple Arhat noodles or delicate vegetarian feast, the ingredients are fresh and the taste is light and elegant, which is a purifying experience for taste buds.
Exploring ancient times and collecting cultural and creative memories - The temple has a cultural and creative space where you can purchase elegantly designed Buddhist scriptures, bookmarks, bracelets, or stamp them with the distinctive seal of the Manjusri Monastery as a unique commemoration of this trip.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
