Kunming Arrival--Dianchi Lake--Yunnan Ethnic Village

4+ stars Hotels

Breakfast & Lunch

Upon arrival in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, you will begin your exploration with a visit to Dianchi Lake, also known as the “Pearl of the Plateau.” It is the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan, framed by distant mountains and charming lakeside parks. You can stroll along the promenade, take in the fresh air, and observe local life.

Next, head to the Yunnan Ethnic Village, an open-air cultural park that showcases the traditional dwellings, crafts, costumes, and customs of 25 ethnic minorities. It’s a colorful and educational journey into the heart of Yunnan’s multicultural identity.

Take your time to appreciate performances of traditional dances, try on ethnic costumes, and even sample some local delicacies from the food stalls inside the village.

Evening Option:
If you arrive early and are still full of energy, you may opt to enjoy a relaxing walk in Green Lake Park, where locals often gather for music, dancing, and evening socializing. Alternatively, you can explore Nanping Street, Kunming’s historic pedestrian area lined with shops, cafés, and street food stalls, perfect for a casual dinner and some light shopping.

Jiuxiang Karst Caves--Stone Forest

4+ stars Hotels

Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast, we will drive to Jiuxiang Scenic Area, home to one of the largest cave systems in China. As you descend into the underground wonderland, you will explore a vast network of limestone chambers, waterfalls, and rock formations shaped over millions of years. Highlights include the Lion Hall, Goddess Cave, and the dramatic Twin Waterfalls, all illuminated with atmospheric lighting.

After lunch, continue to the world-famous Stone Forest (Shilin), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a geological marvel. These towering limestone pillars form a surreal maze of rock formations that resemble petrified trees. Walking through the forest, you’ll feel as though you’ve entered a mythical landscape. The site is deeply connected to the local Sani people, a subgroup of the Yi minority, and their legends and traditional attire add cultural depth to your visit.

Evening Option:
In the evening, if you're staying near Shilin, you may choose to enjoy a Sani minority cultural performance, complete with traditional dancing and singing in colorful ethnic costumes. It’s a wonderful way to experience the vibrancy of Yunnan’s local traditions.

Fuxian Lake--Bijia Mountain

4+ stars Hotels

Breakfast & Lunch

Today, we head south to Fuxian Lake, the deepest freshwater lake in China. With crystal-clear turquoise water and gentle hills surrounding it, the lake offers a perfect escape into nature. You can walk along the lakeshore, rent a bicycle, or simply sit back and enjoy the peaceful scenery. Depending on the weather, you may also take a boat ride to see more of the lake’s beautiful inlets.

Next, visit Bijia Mountain, located on a peninsula that stretches into Fuxian Lake. The mountain gets its name from its shape, which resembles a traditional Chinese pen holder. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the lake and temples nestled among the cliffs. The site combines natural beauty with spiritual significance, as it houses ancient Taoist and Buddhist relics.

Recommended Activities:
You may take a short paddle boat ride on the lake, or enjoy some freshly caught fish at a lakeside restaurant. For those interested in local culture, a visit to nearby fishing villages will offer insight into the region’s lifestyle and cuisine.

4+ stars Hotels

Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast, travel to Mile, a town known for its hot springs, vineyards, and its unique fusion of art and architecture. Your main stop today is Dongfengyun Art Village, an architectural masterpiece made of red bricks and curved forms. The complex is designed by Chinese artist Luo Xu and showcases modern art exhibitions, design shops, and local crafts—all set against the backdrop of Yunnan’s rolling hills.

You’ll have free time to walk through the art installations, photograph the dramatic structures, or sip a glass of local wine from one of the nearby vineyards. Dongfengyun is a perfect finale to your journey—blending modern creativity with the tranquil landscape of rural Yunnan.

In the afternoon, we return to Kunming, where your 4-day tour concludes.

Recommended Activities:
If time allows before departure, you can stop at a local tea market in Kunming to pick up some Yunnan Pu'er tea, or enjoy a light farewell meal featuring classic Yunnan dishes such as Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles or wild mushroom hotpot.

Eating Option:

Don't miss the opportunity to try Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles (Guoqiao Mixian), Yunnan’s most iconic dish with a heartwarming story. The meal is served with a steaming bowl of rich chicken broth, accompanied by raw ingredients such as thinly sliced pork, quail eggs, tofu skin, mushrooms, and rice noodles. You’ll add each item into the soup in a specific order to cook them to perfection.

This interactive dining experience is not only delicious but also rooted in Yunnan’s culinary tradition. Ask the restaurant staff to guide you through the steps for the best flavor!
